Apple Hints That ipad 3 Might Be Released March – April 2012
Finally Apple has fired the first shot in the latest tablet computer war – announcing the date on which it is widely speculated the iPad 3 will go on sale.
The American company has scheduled a press conference in San Francisco for 7 March which has got the tech world and gadget fans buzzing.
While the invite doesn’t mention the iPad 3 by name, it has a picture of what looks like part of a thinner version of the best-selling device and the words “We have something you really have to see. And touch.”
This release is expected to be Apple’s most eagerly-awaited launch to date.
With last year’s launch of the iPad 2 seen by experts as just a stop-gap release, it is hoped by many loyal fans of the brand that the iPad 3 will have a bigger screen and faster processor, further demonstrating its dominance of the tablet computer.
The announcement will be the first big reveal from the company since Apple mastermind Steve Jobs passed away in October and comes two years since the original iPad hit the streets.
Should it be launched next week, deliveries of the iPad 3 would be expected to be in US & UK stores within weeks.
There is always a leaking point in a big company like Apple although the person spilling the beans cannot possibly be named. Instead of silencing the rumors, such leaked information usually adds fuel to the existing words of mouth. Hence experts sure enough that the world will still have to wait for months to get the exciting new features of the latest generation of the Apple’s tablet. However, from the unnamed leaker as well as hints from the people associated with Apple, experts can have a prediction worthy of their time as release dates seem to be imminent.
The prediction goes that the latest Apple’s tablet is going to be equipped with a dual processor and that should be Apple’s A5 because the product in the other line, the iphone 5, is surely going to use this processor. There is no difference with the previous generation in this sector so that consumers can expect the integration of the same PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphics. The much debated A6 processor should wait until 2012 if the latest tablet generation is indeed to be launched this year, what about the flash player, the rumours say ipad 3 will have flash player features.
The latest tablet can be expected to include the Retina Display which so far is available only in iPhone 4. One thing that experts sure of is that Apple is interested in Near Field Communication and so the latest tablet should include an NFC chip. Such a chip will enable a user to process data on a Mac through a command from an iPhone 5. Greater storage is expected to reach up to 128G option while the Thunderbolt port in the 2011 MacBook Pro can be included too. If the September 2011 of the iPad 3 release date is correct.
iPad 3 Released Soon?
The rumour mill is now awash with thoughts on what to expect from the iPad 3 – and whether it will even be called that.
It has been widely mooted that the device will have the same sort of high resolution retina display as the latest iPhone range. This would give it a high quality viewing experience in a wide range of lighting conditions.
Some rumours claim the resolution of the iPad 3 could even be better than some high-definition TVs and an improved screen has been top of the wishlist of current iPad owners for months along with faster processing speeds.
That itself should be catered for by the inclusion of a powerful quad-core processor, that will likely then be rolled out into the iPhone 5.
Both of these improvements would need to lead to an increase in battery life, up from the current flagship standard of 10 hours. However, any larger battery will need to be squeezed in without enlarging its slim shape.
A view of the latest iPad 2
There is even the possibility of Siri voice control as found on the iPhone 4S. This advanced vocal recognition software allows users to control functions with spoken commands.
And while some pundits predict there will also be a smaller screen version released at the same time, announcing two models at the same time would be contrary to Apple’s usual strategy.
It is much more likely that the iPad 3′s display will be enlarged to fill out as much of its front as possible, removing the bottom-centred Home button and relocating the camera from the top centre.
Other obvious functions to be improved would include the rear camera. This again could ape the iPhone 4S by having a high quality eight megapixel camera.
Near Field Communication is another interesting area. So far Apple is yet to include NFC on its flagship handset product with the iPhone 5 expected to rectify that.
But could the new iPad be the first Apple device to feature this wireless technology, enabling data transfer and mobile payments? NFC could then be used to easily and quickly share data between an iPad and an NFC-enabled MacBook, with a refresh of the MacBook range also imminent.
Retailers are now expected to responded to tonight’s announcement by slashing the cost of the iPad 2 while Apple may follow the pricing path with the iPad 2 it chose when unwrapping the iPhone 4S in October. Back then it reduced the cost of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS to stimulate the number of devices in the market with some networks offering the latter for free on a new contract.
iPad Tablet PC Is More Than Just A Toy
Sweeping generalizations branded iPad as nothing more than an expensive toy. And having more thousands and thousands of applications doesn’t help much with its image. But is it really just a toy? Or is there something more to it than having a horsepower powerful enough to host as much apps as you want?
A Multimedia Player
It is, without the slightest hint of doubt, among the cheapest yet best-performing multimedia player in the market these days. It has superb software that can handle high definition videos as well nearly all forms of audio files, video files, podcasts, TV shows, and music. For the most parts, having all these functions is more than worth for the $499 buyers will have to dole out for the device.
An E-Reading Device
Many have dubbed iPad as the biggest threat to Amazon’s Kindle. Despite Kindle’s dedicated capabilities for e-reading, many Kindle users have already hopped in the iPad bandwagon to switch from the 1.2 pounds eBook reading Kindle DX to 1.5 pounds consolidated multimedia device that can fare as well as Kindle in its function.
Lots Of Apps To Use
Apple’s tagline: ‘there’s an app for that’, is not a marketing hyperbole. It is a reality. As if this selection is not mind-boggling enough, third party apps creators and developers are constantly creating new apps to add to the extensive collection that Apple has. So it is just more apps from here.
Wi-Fi
In the apple ecosystem, nothing is ever without internet connection. You can definitely use iPad wherever hotspots are present.
3G Connection
No Wi-Fi hotspot nearby? No problem. Apple integrates 3G with its iPad. Like it’s smaller sibling ? the iPhone, iPad can connect to AT&T’s 3G network. What is so remarkable with this arrangement is that it does not bind users with long-term contracts. Activate or deactivate your 3G connection however you want, iPad and AT&T’s partnership is purely customizable.
Hulu, YouTube and Other Video Hosting Sites
The lack of flash in iPad is a frequent complain. In fact, a monumental drawback. But download an app and you can have this problem resolved in no time. Although for now, the application is only applicable to YouTube. Other applications are expected to be available very soon.
Web Browsing
iPad uses Apple’s own web browser- Safari, the same browser that iPod Touch and Mac use. Only with iPad, the features are enhanced to accommodate the touch screen technology of the device.
Bluetooth
This is a no-brainer. Apple’s iPad takes advantageous of external devices that connects via Bluetooth. Soon retail stores will be flooded with anything iPad ? from Bluetooth keyboards to Bluetooth headphones.
Storage Capacity
Whether you are a media-hungry user or not, you can have options with iPad. You can go with 16GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions.
Productive Software Applications
Productivity apps such as Pages, Keynote and Numbers are available in iPad as well, making it as much a toy as a productivity device.
Email
With the help of its virtual keyboard and email application, you can send and receive emails on the go. Given of course that you have access online.
Apple iPad It’s A Giant iPhone
The iPad. Well, it definitely is on a league of its own. There simply is no other device like it. It is revolutionary and is perceived to herald a new technology for personal computing. Just like its smaller twins ? the iPhone and iPod Touch.
It took nearly ten years for an idea like this to come to fruition. Even the name has been debated on for years. Prior to Steve Jobs’ launching of the iPad, big fans of its smaller predecessors have come up with the names The Slate, Apple Tablet, and a couple of other guesses, only to be presented with a name that sounds like a Chinese parody of the iPod. And more disappointments soon came the way of iPad.
Among the most notable is that the thing is only a larger version of the iPod touch, as many argue. Many disappointed ex-iPad enthusiasts even went so far as create images of Steve Jobs presenting the Ipad, only in the picture the device looks like 4 iPod Touch taped together.
Maybe it?s the hype created for the device ? it seems so hyped that no other device in recent memory can compare to the publicity it has received ? or maybe it’s because people have expected so much. For one, they expected to have a device that performs way better than the one they already have ? the iPod Touch. But then again, when a device carries an updated software of its predecessor with a few alterations here and there, it would be hard not to compare the two. But really, is there anything to compare aside from what has been already said? Also, is the iPad really just a larger version of the iPod Touch?
Hardly Nope iPad Is Not A Big iPhone
The user interface, itself, while for the most parts resemble those already available in iPod Touch has some additions that you can love, know and gripe about, just as you did with iPod Touch. For one, there is a small handful of new tools like Pop-overs or modals, tap-and-hold, split screens, toolbar drop-downs, cover flow, contextual menus and that famous virtual keyboard. All these user interface additions allow you to do more and go further with your iPad. That simply can’t be done with its smaller, older twin.
To top these off, the iPad, although not necessarily made as a real personal computer, is packed with applications like Keynote and Numbers that can let you do work on the go. There’s a lot more to like to this beast. It allows you access to engaging Apple-made applications and third-party applications, for example, many of which are applications that iPod Touch enthusiasts have come to love.
Still, iPad has some shortcomings that many people are justified to complain about. Huge shortcomings. For starters, iPad does not allow multitasking, although it allows multitasking for Apple’s applications. If you’re used to doing 5 things at the same time on your computer, you’re out of luck with this device, buddy. You can’t Twitter and open your email simultaneously. You can?t also hold a conversation over an IM app and run Facebook apps simultaneously. For some users who are used to doing things this way, iPad is a big disappoint. However, for the majority of users, this isn?t much a big deal. This is probably why Apple did not take long to ignore the problem.
See, while many people are disappointed with the close comparison of iPad and iPhone, it is still clear that the former is a revolutionary device that is not comparable to anything available in the market. And what’s even clearer is that the iPad is not a bigger version of the iPod Touch.
iPad 2 USB Port
The lack of an iPad USB port has always been an issue with the first release of the iPad. Now, with the release of the iPad 2, many users will be eager to find out whether any USB port is included as part of the design.
iPad 2 Is A New, Sleeker iPad
The iPad 2 is a sleeker model when compared to the original device. What this means for anyone looking for an iPad USB port is that, now the iPad is thinner, there’s even less room for one – unfortunately the iPad 2 doesn’t come fitted with a USB port.
As well as the USB port, it’s useful for all potential iPad 2 buyers to note that Apple also decided not to include Flash support (which wasn’t really a surprise given what they’ve said about Flash in the past). More frustrating is the lack of an SD memory card slot.
But are iPad users really missing out just because they don’t have a USB port, Flash support or an SD card slot?
How Can You Use Your USB Devices On The iPad 2?
To avoid compromising the sleek and portable iPad 2 design, Apple have come up with adapters to solve the problems of missing ports. These aren’t anything new – we saw them with the original iPad – and they are sold for those looking to connect their camera to the device.
The Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit sells for $29 and features two separate adapters. Firstly there’s the SD card slot to be used with memory cards, and secondly there’s a USB adapter for plugging your camera or iPhone into the iPad.
However, the USB adapter may work for certain unofficial uses, such as plugging in USB microphones, headphones and keyboards. You can also download apps that allow you to connect external storage devices using Apple’s Camera adapter. The truth is that it’s useful for many more devices than just cameras!
Is The Lack Of An iPad USB Port Really A Drawback?
People are generally in two camps when it comes to the iPad USB port argument: those that don’t think a USB port is necessary for a portable device of this type, and those that think Apple should have included it ever since the beginning. For those who want to connect a camera, the additional adapter charge may not be ideal, but it’s worth it to benefit from all the other features that the iPad 2 DOES have to offer.
iPad 2 Accessories
With the reveal of the latest iPad model comes a whole new range of iPad 2 accessories specifically designed for the tablet computer. Here’s a quick guide to some of the most notable accessories to be announced.
The Digital AV Adapter
The new Digital AV Adapter (an HDMI port that connects to the 30-pin port on the iPad) is a new cable that will allow iPad 2 users to connect the device to their TV or other HDMI-ready display. The adaptor also supports video mirroring technology, meaning that the screen will display exactly what’s happening on the iPad, whether this means browsing websites, showing off your presentations, watching movies and so on. When you plug in the new Digital AV Adapter it works without any extra configuration, and also works with audio.
The Digital AV Adapter is available for $39 from Apple, and it isn’t just exclusive to the iPad 2 – it can also be connected to the original iPad, the iPhone 4, and 4th generation iPod Touch.
The iPad 2 Smart Cover
This is one of the most talked about of the new iPad 2 accessories, thanks to the way it works perfectly with the iPad to perform extra features above and beyond simply protecting the screen. It stays in place through a magnetic connection to the iPad screen, and will automatically send the iPad to sleep when you apply it. Then, when the smart cover is removed, your iPad will wake up ready to use.
Apple are touting this cover as a sleek, slim alternative to buying a “bulky”, more traditional iPad case. It also has multiple functions, and can be used as a stand to make watching movies, typing, making video calls or any other activities easier. Because of the way the magnets work, the case can be folded over and stuck to itself to form a stand at the back of the device. The smart cover comes in at $39.
The iPad 2 Dock
Apple have also released a new iPad 2 dock to fit the new smaller size of the iPad 2. The dock is designed with easy access to ports for synching, charging and connecting external speakers, and also works with other iPad accessories.
Traditional iPad 1 Accessories
For those who are upgrading and wondering if they need to buy all-new iPad 2 accessories, don’t worry! The traditional iPad 1 accessories, like the camera connection kit, the wireless keyboard, AVG adapter and so on will still be sold with the iPad 2.
iPad Has Everything, But Let’s Look At Some Features That iPad’s Don’t Have
Technology that’s revolutionary, unique, and breakthrough?such are the adjectives that were attached to the iPad as it was launched by Apple early this year.
Its launch was arguably graced with one the most massive marketing concepts since the iPhone. Apple has a way of making grandiose statements about their products that result to great commercial interest. Sure, there exists a considerable gap between the positive and negative feedback, but these only fuels up the interest that is surrounding the latest Apple ingenue.
A lot has been said about the iPad’s features and performance. iPad detractors have belittled its purported presence in the industry. Most of the comments belie on the gadget’s lack of special qualities to actually take over one of the more popular devices today.
It cannot take over the iPod Touch primarily because of the difference in size. The main selling point of the iPod Touch is its handiness. For a relatively miniature piece, the iPod Touch can store so much files and deliver outstanding performance. It can play movies, videos, music, and games. In addition to that, an iPod Touch can connect to the Internet through wireless technology. It is practically the best amongst the slew of music players that came our way.
It cannot take over the iPhone or any smartphone in existence. The iPad does not support SMS, which is an inherent characteristic of a mobile phone. Moreover, it cannot perform the most important mobile feature: voice calls and its advanced sister, video calls. It cannot make video calls mainly because it does not have an integrated camera. It has a detachable camera that is sold separately as an accessory. It sounds fussy, definitely not the kind of device you would like to tote every day.
The iPad cannot take over the ominous laptops, whatever brand is in question. A laptop is heavy duty; its clamshell design protects the screen. It has a keyboard and a mouse and provides various input and output channels such as USB ports, flash drives, memory card slot, CD-ROM and HDMI socket. A laptop is a one-stop device that will enable you to accomplish your tasks in one sitting. Most importantly, a laptop is designed to support multitasking by allowing the user to open and run more than two programs at once.
Although it does have a case, which again, is sold separately. The iPad case is dual purpose; aside from protecting the display screen, it also serves as an iPad stand. A keyboard dock accessory is also available for those who prefer the convenience of typing away in an actual, physical keyboard.
For sure, a lot of iPad supplements will be introduced in the future, like an external hard drive or a mouse. In a practical sense, would anyone really want a gadget that offers the same features as the existing gadget already does? Not to mention the existing gadgets that have all the features tucked in without the need to purchase one accessory after the other.
iPad 2 Reading Apps
Probably one of the more popular features of the iPad 2?aside from its multi-orientation interface?is its accessibility to hundreds of thousands of apps. These programs have been specifically designed to run on the iPad; there is zero possibility to find it anywhere else, except on the iPhone and iPod Touch. The applications cater to a wide range of categories, including entertainment, business, games, education, and sports. Practically anything you can think of has been prepared for by Apple engineers and third-party developers. Whatever your need, there’s an app for that.
One useful application offered on the iPad is an e-book reader called iBooks. The size of the iPad 2 screen is ideal for reading; there is no squinting necessary to view text displayed on this device. Most of the technical aspects relating to the readability of the material can be adjusted such as its brightness, text size, typeface, and background. The background lighting can be dimmed according to the user’s preference and this is especially useful for reading at night since nocturnal reading becomes unbearable when the screen is too bright.
Moreover, text size and font styles can be altered to suit the user’s needs. For some odd reason, we all have quirky preferences when it comes to font styles. There are people who just simply could not stand neither Times New Roman nor Arial; sometimes, they find it easy to read huge blocks of text displayed in Helvetica or Palatino Linotype. Text adjustment is definitely good news for those who like to read lengthy novels.
Another wonderful feature of the iBooks app is its capability to render superb graphics. iPad’s crisp screen and high-speed memory allows images to appear as you read it without waiting for the image to complete. It makes graphic novels and illustrated books better appreciated.
Incidentally, Marvel Comics has its own e-book reader app on the iPad 2, which means the Marvel experience is easily accessible via a simple download! The images can be enlarged or minimized by simply pinching on the multi-touch screen. It is also easier to navigate and browse the pages of Marvel’s comic books by tapping the thumbnails.
In line with further reading, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times have also created an app exclusively for the iPad 2. While it is not exactly a great replacement for a physical broadsheet newspaper, it provides as easy, “tap-worthy” access to news as you need it.
These applications are available on the not-so-subtly named marketplace App Store, which can be accessed on a specialized app on the iPad. iBooks is already included in the device once you purchase it, while the Marvel Comics app can be purchased on the App Store or through Amazon. Currently, Amazon still holds the record of offering more and better titles more than any other e-book seller. The user has the option to preview the books or comics before buying and as a lucky iPad owner, you can also order Marvel Comics in print to add to your collection.
